[ARCHIVED] PRESS RELEASE: Carlton County COVID-19 update 4/13/20

Carlton County COVID-19 update 4/13/20

General Updates:

For updated case counts around the state, please continue to reference the situation map, updated by MDH daily at 11am here. The Minnesota Department of Health (MDH) continues to do the main investigation of each case, and Carlton County Public Health staff will follow-up when needed.

Of the 1,650 lab-confirmed cases on MDH’s website, 157 are currently hospitalized and 842 no longer need isolation (recovered). The Moose Lake Correctional Facility has reported 11 lab-confirmed cases in inmates (these fall within the 25 total in Carlton County), 7 of which have recovered (MN Department of Corrections website).

COVID-19 Modeling:

When a new disease appears, policy-makers, businesses, health care providers, and public health officials look for real-time information to help make decisions to reduce the impact of the disease. Modeling is a way to use what we know about a disease now to help us understand what could happen in the future and how our actions may affect that. What we learn from models is just one factor to consider in making decisions like Minnesota’s stay at home order and other executive orders. Visit Minnesota COVID-19 Modeling to learn more about what the model predicts, how we created our model, why it’s important, and what comes next.

Watch Out for Scams:

Scammers are taking advantage of people’s anxiety around COVID-19. It’s important to know that there are currently no miracle cures, products, or treatments that can eliminate COVID-19.

Amid rising reports of discrimination from the Asian American community, Governor Walz and Lt. Governor Flanagan launched a Discrimination Helpline today to protect the civil rights of Minnesotans during the COVID-19 pandemic. The toll-free helpline will allow those who experience or witness bias and discrimination to report incidents to the Minnesota Department of Human Rights. For more information, visit Minnesota Department of Human Rights: Discrimination Helpline. Discrimination Helpline (available Monday-Friday, 8am-4:30pm): 1-833-454-0148

Additional Health Recommendations:

MDH Video: The Basics of Minnesota’s Stay at Home Order describes how the stay at home order asks all Minnesotans to avoid going out in public unless it is absolutely necessary. By staying at home, we can slow the spread of COVID-19 and help save lives.

MDH Video: Visiting a clinic or provider during COVID-19 outlines what to do if you need to visit a health care provider’s office during the COVID-19 outbreak.

Updated Behavioral Health Resources updated on MDH’s website for Responders, Health Care Providers, Community, Children & Families, etc.

Carlton County Public Health and Human Services is continuing to recommend that anyone with general health-related questions about COVID-19 call MDH’s hotline (7am-7pm): 651-201-3920 or 1-800-657-3903.
