Carlton County COVID-19 update 4/2/20
General Updates:
Carlton County officials were notified by the Minnesota Department of Health (MDH) of one additional lab-confirmed COVID-19 case in a Carlton County resident. No additional details were shared at this time and the case is being investigated by MDH. The lab-confirmed case total for Carlton County is three.
At this time, Carlton County is mirroring the MDH data release, with the Center for Disease Control and Prevention’s (CDC) guidance for reporting the numbers once per day. The data is displayed here at 11am daily. Local officials realize there are other local sources of real-time data that may not match MDH’s numbers. MDH would stress that the data listing once per day allows the data to be confirmed and accurate.
Governor Walz’s State of the State Address will be held Sunday, April 5th at 7pm.
Over the past few weeks, several state and federal programs have been built to assist small businesses struggling during the COVID-19 pandemic. Different programs make sense for different businesses, so the Minnesota Department of Employment and Economic Development is providing a summary guide to help small businesses quickly see which programs might be right for their situation. Find the guide here.
Minnesota Department of Health has been working regularly with Correctional Facilities around the state for coordinated care and response for inmates and staff. They are in regular contact and are following the guidance developed on 3/10 found here.
Additional Health Recommendations:
MDH is continuing to request that anyone willing/able to give blood do so, as there continues to be a blood shortage. Blood Centers are making it possible for healthy individuals to still donate and maintain social distancing. Please contact your local blood center/bank if you would like to donate, but are unsure if you would be eligible.

As a reminder, with holidays coming up in early April, MDH and Local Public Health are urging residents to continue to stay home and avoid gatherings. There continues to be an increase in COVID-19 cases in Minnesota, so this recommendation is essential to help limit the spread of the outbreak in our communities and is essential to help protect our most vulnerable Minnesotans – elderly and those with severe underlying health conditions.
Carlton County Public Health and Human Services is continuing to recommend that anyone with general health-related questions about COVID-19 call MDH’s hotline (7am-7pm): 651-201-3920 or 1-800-657-3903.
