Mailbox
Damage Policy - caused by snow
removal operations
The Department will replace
mailboxes with a standard size
mailbox only when the mailbox
was installed at the proper
height and location and when
actually hit by the snow plowing
equipment. The Department will
also replace mailboxes damaged
by snow coming off the plow when
the mailbox has been installed
on a swing or pivot support
meeting the specifications as
shown in the
drawing
here
or available at the
Transportation Department office
at 1630 Co Rd 61, Carlton, MN.
If you live on a roadway
maintained by the County, the
Department will, for a nominal
fee, install a swing-away
mailbox support for you. Request
one
here.
It will be your responsibility
to install the mailbox on the
support.
Snow removal operations that may
have damaged a mailbox or
support do not require County
repairs. Wet snow is heavy and
supports that are not swing away
can easily be damaged. The
County does not repair mailboxes
damaged by snow that is pushed
into them by a County snowplow.
Before placing a mailbox support
in the road right of way, review
the approved mailbox support
drawing
and the
Roadside
Hazard Policy. You
must also contact
Gopher
State One-Call before
installing a mailbox support.
