CRIMINAL DIVISION
This Division prosecutes adults
charged with felony crimes as
well as misdemeanors and gross
misdemeanor offenses that occur
in the unincorporated areas of
the County and other limited
areas as defined by statute.
CIVIL DIVISION
The
Civil Division of the Carlton
County
Attorney’s Office provides legal
advice and support to all the
various County Departments. This
Division advises and represents
the County Board of
Commissioners on civil legal
matters and
provides legal advice to the
Board and other County Officials
in
areas of contracts, labor law,
environmental law, real estate
acquisition and data privacy
among others.
JUVENILE AND PROTECTIVE
SERVICES DIVISION
This
Division prosecutes juvenile
delinquency matters involving
juveniles
accused of committing crimes
within the County. The Division
also
initiates petitions to protect
abused or neglected children,
vulnerable
adults, and initiates
involuntary commitment actions
to provide
necessary treatment for
individuals who are mentally
ill, chemically
dependent, or mentally
handicapped.
CHILD SUPPORT ENFORCEMENT
DIVISION
This Division
assists the County Attorney in
providing legal direction and
advice
to the Carlton County Child
Support Enforcement Division.
The
Division brings actions to
obtain and enforce child support
orders,
medical support and child care
support obligations. The
Division
also establishes paternity of
children when necessary.
VICTIM/WITNESS SERVICES
DIVISION
The primary
responsibility of the
Victim/Witness Division of the
Carlton County Attorney’s Office
is to assist victims of criminal
offenses, including the
responsibility to see that crime
victim's rights are honored
pursuant to Minnesota laws.
The Victim/Witness Division
helps victims in obtaining
emergency financial assistance,
in accessing community
counseling and advocacy
resources, and also assists
victims with application to the
Minnesota Crime Victim
Reparations Board. The
Victim/Witness Division is also
responsible for notifying
victims of their rights to
restitution and of various court
dates concerning their criminal
case.
